Question 1

How do I order custom shades from Apollo Shades?

Accepted Answer

You can configure and price roller, solar, blackout and Roman shades or drapery online with our configurator, request a quote, or book a free consultation. Our Brooklyn team reviews every order before it goes into production to confirm sizes, fabric and options.

Question 2

How much do custom window treatments cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing depends on size, fabric, operating system and options such as motorization or cassettes. Manual roller shades typically start in the low hundreds per window and motorized shades add the cost of the motor and controls. The online configurator shows a live price as you build each shade, and quotes are always free.

Question 3

Do you offer free consultations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer free in-home and showroom consultations throughout the New York City metro area. A specialist will review your windows, bring fabric samples and recommend the right products, mount type and controls.

Question 4

Can I get fabric samples before I order?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Request free samples from any fabric collection online or during a consultation so you can check color, opacity and texture in your own light before committing.

Question 5

How quickly can I get an estimate?

Accepted Answer

We can typically schedule an in-home or showroom consultation within 24 hours. Your written estimate or proposal usually follows in around 3 business days, depending on the complexity of the project; more complex projects can take up to approximately 10 business days.

Question 6

Which payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit cards and secure online payment at checkout. Trade and commercial accounts can request invoicing with approved terms.

Question 7

Do you measure and install?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our experienced technicians provide professional measuring and installation throughout NYC, Long Island, Westchester and northern New Jersey. We strongly recommend professional measuring for inside-mount shades and motorized systems.

Question 8

Can I measure my own windows?

Accepted Answer

You can. Measure the width and height at three points each and use the smallest width and the longest height for inside mounts; for outside mounts add overlap on each side for light control. Our measuring guide walks you through it, and we also ship nationwide to customers who provide their own measurements.

Question 9

What is the difference between an inside mount and an outside mount?

Accepted Answer

An inside mount fits within the window frame for a clean, built-in look and requires enough depth for the hardware. An outside mount installs on the wall or trim above the window, covers the frame completely and offers better light blockage.

Question 10

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential installations are completed in a single visit—typically 20–30 minutes per window for manual shades and a little longer for motorized shades that need pairing with remotes, hubs or your smart home system.

Question 11

What types of window treatments do you make?

Accepted Answer

We manufacture custom roller shades, solar shades, blackout shades, Roman shades, dual (day/night) shades and custom drapery, with manual, cordless and motorized operation for residential and commercial spaces.

Question 12

What fabrics do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Our collections include light-filtering, blackout, solar/sunscreen (1%–10% openness), sheer and natural woven fabrics for shades, and linen, velvet, silk blends and blackout-lined options for drapery, from leading mills such as Coulisse, Vertilux, Rollease Acmeda and Fabricut.

Question 13

What is the difference between blackout, light-filtering and solar fabrics?

Accepted Answer

Blackout fabrics block essentially all light for bedrooms and media rooms. Light-filtering fabrics soften daylight while providing privacy. Solar screen fabrics reduce glare and heat and preserve your view—the lower the openness percentage, the more light and heat they block.

Question 14

Do you make shades for very large or unusual windows?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Standard roller shades are made up to about 96 inches wide, and oversized roller shades up to approximately 150 inches wide by 150 inches high are available on eligible fabric and system combinations. Coupled or multi-band systems can cover wider openings, and we build shades for skylights, arched and angled windows and tall commercial glazing.

Question 15

Are your shades child and pet safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer cordless and motorized options with no accessible cords or chains, and our chain-operated shades include tension devices that meet current child-safety standards.

Question 16

Do you offer motorized shades?

Accepted Answer

Motorization is one of our specialties. We offer motorized roller, solar, blackout and Roman shades and motorized drapery tracks powered by Motion Blinds, Automate, Somfy and Lutron, with whisper-quiet motors (under 35 dB).

Question 17

Which smart home systems do your motorized shades work with?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the motor and system, our motorized shades are compatible with platforms including Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Matter, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Control4, Lutron HomeWorks, Loxone, RTI and Bond, so you can control shades by app, voice, schedule or scene. Compatibility varies by motor and product, and we confirm the right setup for your project.

Question 18

Do motorized shades need wiring?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Rechargeable battery motors install with no wiring and run about 1,000 cycles per charge; hardwired and low-voltage options are available for new construction and commercial projects.

Question 19

How do I control motorized shades?

Accepted Answer

Choose a dedicated multi-channel remote, a battery-powered wall switch, the smartphone app, or voice control—or combine them. Scenes and schedules let shades move automatically with sunrise, sunset or your daily routine.

Question 20

Do you offer warranties?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Apollo Shades products are covered by the warranty terms provided with your order, together with the manufacturer warranties for motors and components. Coverage depends on the product and motor, so we confirm the terms for your products with your quote, and our Brooklyn-based team coordinates any warranty service.

Question 21

How do I clean and care for my shades?

Accepted Answer

Dust regularly with a soft cloth or vacuum brush attachment and spot-clean most fabrics with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals and do not soak natural woven or silk fabrics—ask us for care instructions for your specific fabric.

Question 22

What if my shade needs a repair or adjustment?

Accepted Answer

Contact our service team. Many adjustments, such as limit settings on motors or re-tensioning a clutch, can be handled quickly, and warranty repairs are coordinated by our Brooklyn-based service team.

Question 23

Do you work with designers, architects and contractors?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Trade Program offers interior designers, architects, builders and dealers exclusive pricing, dedicated project coordination, samples and priority support. Apply online in a few minutes.

Question 24

Do you provide commercial solutions?

Accepted Answer

We specialize in commercial projects including offices, hotels, restaurants, schools and retail spaces, with building-wide motorized systems, integration with building management systems and the ability to work from architectural specifications.

Question 25

Do you ship outside New York?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We ship custom shades nationwide for customers who provide their own measurements. Local customers in the NYC metro area can choose professional measuring and installation.

Accepted Answer

Our showroom is at 1 Brooklyn Navy Yard, Building 33, Suite 201B, Brooklyn, NY 11205. Visit during business hours or call (212) 209-0654 to schedule an appointment.
