Blinds

Custom Blinds: Choosing the Right Material for Each Room

Blinds control light with slats rather than fabric. Tilting the slats changes the angle of the light and the view in, so you can go from bright and open to private without raising the blind. The material of the slats decides how a blind looks, how it handles moisture and where it works best.

Apollo offers wood, faux wood, aluminum and vertical blinds. Custom-made to your measurements, with consultation and installation throughout New York City.

What Blinds Do Best

  1. 01

    Adjustable light

Tilt the slats to direct daylight up, let it straight in or shut it out.

  2. 02

    Privacy without darkness

Angle slats upward to block the view in while keeping the room bright.

  3. 03

    Durable materials

Hard slats that stand up to daily use and are easy to wipe clean.

  4. 04

    A tailored look

Clean horizontal or vertical lines that suit classic and modern rooms.

  5. 05

    Motorization available

Wood, faux wood and aluminum blinds can lift and tilt by motor.

Blind Types & Light Control

Materials

Wood
Real hardwood slats with natural grain and warmth; best kept to dry rooms.
Faux Wood
The look of wood with moisture resistance, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
Aluminum
Slim, modern slats with a crisp profile, light weight and lasting durability.
Vertical
Vertical vanes that rotate and draw to the side, suited to sliding doors and wide glass.

Tilt and privacy

Slats open
Level slats let in daylight and the view out.
Tilted up
Light is bounced toward the ceiling and the view in from below is blocked.
Tilted down
Light is directed toward the floor while some outward view remains.
Closed
Slats overlap for privacy; small gaps at the edges and route holes still let some light through.

Moisture & Room Considerations

Choose the material for the conditions in the room. Real wood can warp in steam or high humidity, so faux wood or aluminum are the better choice for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Wood suits living rooms, bedrooms and studies where warmth and natural texture matter. Vertical blinds work best on sliding doors and wide openings where horizontal slats would be heavy to lift.

  • Manual operation

Traditional lift and tilt by hand, suitable for all four blind types.

  • Motorized operation

Available for wood, faux wood and aluminum blinds, with remote, app and smart-home control.

Residential & Commercial Applications

  • Living rooms and studies

Wood blinds for warmth and precise light control.

  • Kitchens and bathrooms

Faux wood or aluminum where steam and splashes would warp real wood.

  • Sliding doors

Vertical blinds that draw aside for easy access.

  • Offices and boardrooms

Uniform slats across many windows for glare control.

  • Schools, clinics and rentals

Durable, easy-clean aluminum and faux wood.

Care & Maintenance

  • Dust regularly with a microfiber cloth or duster, with the slats closed one way and then the other.
  • Wipe faux wood, aluminum and vertical vanes with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Keep real wood dry: dust or wipe with a dry cloth only.
  • Raise and lower blinds evenly to keep the ladders and cords aligned.

Measuring & Installation

Blinds need enough frame depth for the headrail and for the slats to tilt without hitting the glass or handles. Our team measures each window, checks depth and obstructions, recommends inside or outside mounting and installs every blind. Apollo is based in Brooklyn and installs throughout New York City.
