Question 1

What's the difference between roller, solar, blackout, cellular and Roman shades?

Accepted Answer

Roller shades are a clean, single panel of fabric on a roller. Solar shades use an open-weave screen that cuts glare and heat while keeping the view. Blackout shades use an opaque fabric to block light. Cellular shades have a honeycomb structure that adds insulation. Roman shades fold into soft horizontal pleats for a tailored, fabric-rich look.

Question 2

Which shades work best for privacy?

Accepted Answer

Light-filtering roller, cellular and Roman shades keep rooms private while letting in a soft glow. Solar shades give daytime privacy but not at night when interior lights are on, so pair them with drapery or choose a blackout fabric for rooms that need night privacy.

Question 3

Which shades provide room darkening or blackout?

Accepted Answer

Blackout roller shades, blackout cellular shades and Roman shades with a blackout lining block the most light. A little light can pass around the edges of an inside-mounted shade; outside mounting and cassette, fascia or pocket solutions can help reduce light at the edges, depending on the window and installation.

Question 4

Can my shades be motorized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Motorization is available for roller, solar, blackout roller, Roman and zebra shades, controlled by remote, app, voice assistant or schedule. Ask us about other styles. See motorized shades.
