Motorized Skylight Shades

Shading for skylights and high windows you cannot reach, controlled at the touch of a button.

Overview

Control the light from above

Skylights and clerestory windows bring in beautiful daylight, along with glare and heat that are hard to manage when the glass is out of reach. Motorized skylight shades solve that, running in guided tracks so the fabric stays taut and aligned at any angle.

Apollo measures each opening, selects the right fabric openness, from soft light-filtering to full blackout, and installs motors you can control by remote, app, voice or a daily schedule.

Skylight Shades

Motorized Skylight Shades for Sloped and Overhead Glass

A standard shade relies on gravity to hang flat. On a skylight or sloped glazing, the fabric would sag away from the glass, so skylight shades use guided, tensioned systems instead: the fabric runs in side channels and is held under tension, so it stays flat and aligned whether the glass is horizontal, sloped or angled.

Because skylights are out of reach, these systems are motorized. Custom-made to your measurements, with consultation and installation throughout New York City.

What a Skylight Shade Solves

  1. 01

    Overhead glare

Soften harsh midday sun that falls straight onto work surfaces and screens.

  2. 02

    Solar heat

Close the shade during the hottest hours to limit heat building up under the glass.

  3. 03

    Darkness when needed

Blackout fabric for bedrooms and media rooms under skylights.

  4. 04

    Out-of-reach control

Operate glass you can't reach from a remote, app, voice assistant or schedule.

  5. 05

    Fabric held flat

Guided, tensioned fabric that doesn't sag on sloped or horizontal glass.

Systems & Control

Guided and tensioned systems

Flat skylights
Horizontal glazing where fabric must be held entirely by tension and side guides.
Sloped glazing
Roof lights and sloped curtain walls where guides keep fabric parallel to the glass.
Angled openings
Faceted or shaped frames reviewed individually for guide layout and fit.
Side channels
Guides at each edge keep the fabric aligned and reduce light gaps.

Power and control

Battery or hardwired
Battery motors avoid new wiring; hardwired motors suit renovations and new construction.
Remote and wall switch
Dedicated controls for a single skylight or a group.
App and voice
Schedules and scenes, with voice control through supported smart-home platforms.
Automation
Close automatically at set times, for example during afternoon heat.

Skylight Fabric Considerations

Skylight fabrics are selected for how they behave under tension and overhead sun. Light-filtering and screen fabrics soften daylight and cut glare; blackout fabrics darken bedrooms and media rooms. Fabric weight, stability and openness are confirmed for each opening, and samples are the best way to judge how a fabric looks overhead.

  • Light filtering & screen

Diffused daylight and glare control under the glass.

  • Blackout

Room darkening for bedrooms and media rooms.

Where Skylight Shades Work Best

  • Kitchens and family rooms

Bright rooms that overheat in the afternoon.

  • Top-floor bedrooms

Blackout fabric for early summer mornings.

  • Penthouses and lofts

    Large skylights and clerestory glazing.

  • Sunrooms and extensions

Sloped roof glazing that needs glare and heat control.

  • Atriums and lobbies

Commercial skylights that can't be reached by hand.

Care & Service

  • Dust the fabric gently with a soft brush on an extension pole or a low-suction vacuum.
  • Keep side channels clear of debris so the fabric travels smoothly.
  • Charge or replace batteries when the shade slows or the app shows a low battery.
  • Contact us for tension adjustment, limit resets or motor service rather than adjusting it yourself.

Measuring & Installation

Skylight shades are measured on site, including the frame depth, slope, available mounting surfaces and access for installation. Each system is planned for guide placement, motor location and power, and is installed with ladders or access equipment as the space requires. Apollo custom-fabricates shades in Brooklyn and installs throughout New York City.
