Custom Motorized Shades with Quiet, Smart Control
Motorized shades replace cords and chains with a quiet motor hidden inside the shade's roller or headrail. Shades raise and lower smoothly to exact positions at the touch of a button, on a schedule or as part of a smart-home scene, and every shade in a room can move together.
Custom-made to your measurements, with consultation and installation throughout New York City. We plan the shade, motor, power and controls together, then install, program and pair the system.
What Motorization Adds to a Shade
- 01
Cord-free and child-safe
No cords or chains to reach for, tangle or wear out.
- 02
Precise positions
Set favorite stops so shades always line up evenly across a room.
- 03
Schedules and scenes
Lower shades in the afternoon sun or raise them on a wake-up schedule.
- 04
Hard-to-reach windows
Skylights, tall windows and glass behind furniture become easy to use.
- 05
Quiet operation
Roller motors run at less than 35dB.
Shade Systems & Controls
Motorized shade systems
- Roller
- Roller motors for standard and oversized roller shades, battery or hardwired, sized to each shade's fabric weight and dimensions.
- Solar
- Solar screen shades on the same roller motor, ideal for grouped glare control.
- Blackout
- Blackout roller shades that close on schedule for bedrooms and media rooms.
- Roman
- The Roman Shade Motor lifts fabric folds evenly, with multiple stops.
Control options
- Wall switch
- A battery-powered wall switch, so no wiring is needed for the switch.
- Remote
- A dedicated 15-channel remote for single shades or groups.
- App
- Control from your phone, with scenes and schedules.
- Voice and smart home
- Motionblinds motors work with Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings, and with systems such as Control4, KNX and Loxone.
Shade Fabrics for Motorization
Our motorized shade collections currently include 877 fabrics and colorways across roller, screen, light-filtering and blackout options. Fabric weight and shade size are matched to the right motor at the design stage.
Light filtering & blackout
Roller fabrics for soft daylight or darker rooms.
Solar screens
Screen fabrics for glare control with a view out.
Roman fabrics
Textured and linen-look fabrics for motorized Roman shades.
Where Motorized Shades Work Best
Living rooms and glass walls
Groups of shades that move together for even light.
Bedrooms and nurseries
Blackout shades on a schedule, with no cords.
Home offices
Solar shades that lower automatically when glare peaks.
Offices and boardrooms
Facade-wide control tied to building systems.
Hotels and multi-unit buildings
Consistent, reliable operation in every room.
Care & Service
- Dust the fabric with a soft brush or a vacuum on low suction.
- Charge or replace batteries when the shade slows or the app shows a low battery.
- Keep the path clear so shades are not stopped by furniture or sills.
- Contact us to reset limits, re-pair controls or service a motor rather than adjusting it yourself.
Power, Measuring & Installation
Battery-powered motors need no new wiring, which makes them the simplest choice for retrofits and finished rooms. Hardwired motors stay constantly powered and are best planned in new construction or renovation, with power run to each shade location before walls are closed. With Matter and Thread, wired motors can also act as routers that strengthen the network. Our team measures each window, plans motors, power and controls, and installs and programs the system. Apollo custom-fabricates shades in Brooklyn and installs throughout New York City.
Architectural & Oversized Shade Solutions
For expansive windows, window walls and large commercial openings, Apollo offers oversized motorized roller shades up to approximately 150" wide × 150" high on eligible systems. Large shades require the correct combination of fabric, roller tube, motor and mounting hardware.
When the desired width exceeds the normal fabric roll width, certain fabrics can be railroaded — rotated 90 degrees — to accommodate the wider opening. Our team reviews fabric compatibility, motor sizing and structural requirements for every oversized application. Not every fabric can be made at the maximum size; the final limit depends on the fabric roll width, whether the fabric is railroadable, fabric weight, shade width and drop, roller tube size and rigidity, motor torque and capacity, and the mounting and hardware configuration.
What Is Railroaded Fabric?
Railroaded fabric means the fabric is rotated 90 degrees so the length of the fabric roll is used across the width of the shade. This allows us to make shades wider than the normal fabric roll width.
- Not every fabric can be railroaded.
- Railroading may change the orientation of a weave or pattern.
- When railroaded, the maximum shade height can be limited by the fabric roll width.
- If one shade in a room must be railroaded, matching shades may also need the same orientation for visual consistency.
Oversized-Shade Considerations
- Tube deflection
- Wider shades need appropriately sized, heavier-duty roller tubes to reduce bowing.
- Motor sizing
- Motor torque must be selected for the total fabric weight and shade dimensions.
- Fabric behavior
- Very wide fabrics can show slight edge curl, waviness or a center V, depending on the material.
- Seams
- If both width and drop exceed what a railroaded fabric can provide, some fabrics may require a horizontal seam. We discuss this with you before production.
- Split shades
- For some openings, two or more individual or coupled shades may provide better fabric tracking and long-term performance than one extremely wide shade.
- Mounting
- Blocking, bracket locations and structural support become more important on oversized systems.
Fabric Selection for Large Shades
Fabric selection is especially important for oversized shades. We verify whether the chosen fabric is railroadable and suitable for the requested dimensions before finalizing the order.
Screen fabrics and other dimensionally stable materials are often better candidates for very large shades, though not every screen fabric can be railroaded.
For very wide spans, Lutron WIDR systems use larger, stronger roller-tube cross-sections to reduce deflection and can support spans up to approximately 18 ft on eligible Lutron configurations. WIDR is Lutron technology, offered through our Lutron partnership.
