Custom Zebra Shades: Two Layers, Endless Light Settings
Zebra shades, also called dual or double roller shades, use one continuous fabric that loops around the roller to form two layers, front and back. Each layer alternates sheer bands with opaque bands. Rolling the shade slightly shifts the layers against each other, so the bands either line up to let light through or overlap to close it off.
The result is a shade that adjusts like a blind but looks like soft fabric. Custom-made to your measurements, with consultation and installation throughout New York City.
Why Zebra Shades Are Different
- 01
Fine light adjustment
Move from open, filtered light to closed privacy without raising the shade.
- 02
View and privacy in one
Align the sheer bands for a view out; offset them for privacy.
- 03
Modern, striped profile
Horizontal bands add structure and rhythm to a clean window.
- 04
Compact and simple
A single roller with a neat cassette, with no slats to tangle or tilt.
- 05
Manual or motorized
Choose a cordless, chain or motorized control for each window.
Light Control & Controls
How the bands work
- Open
- Sheer bands line up front and back, letting filtered daylight and a soft view through.
- Partly offset
- Opaque bands begin to cover the sheer bands, cutting glare while keeping some light.
- Closed
- Opaque bands cover the sheer bands for privacy and a dimmer room.
- Raised
- Roll the shade up completely for a fully open window.
Controls
- Continuous loop
- A chain control for small, precise band adjustments.
- Cordless
- Push and pull by hand with no cords or chains.
- Motorized
- Quiet motors set band positions by remote, app, voice or schedule.

Care & Maintenance
- Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on low suction, with the bands in the closed position.
- Spot-clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap; do not soak or scrub the sheer bands.
- Let any damp area dry fully before rolling the shade up.
- If the bands stop aligning evenly, contact us for an adjustment rather than forcing the fabric.
Measuring & Installation
Because the bands must line up evenly across the window, zebra shades need accurate, level measurements and a square installation. Our team measures each window, advises on inside or outside mounting and installs every shade, including motor setup. Apollo custom-fabricates shades in Brooklyn and installs throughout New York City.
